Rationale

Inadequate understanding and assessment of community risks leads to unpreparedness and ineffective response strategies during emergencies and disasters. Communities are often not adequately prepared for potential hazards, resulting in delayed or inappropriate response actions, increased impact, and longer recovery times. Conducting Community Risk Assessments is crucial to proactively manage and mitigate risks, enhance community resilience, and ensure effective response and recovery efforts.

the project

World Vision International Nepal (WVI Nepal) has been enhancing child well-being since 2001 through integrated development and disaster response programs. Despite progress, Nepal remains vulnerable to natural disasters, threatening rural and underserved communities. The 2015 earthquake and COVID-19 highlighted the need for strong disaster risk reduction strategies. The Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction Project (CBDRR) aims to improve household preparedness and resilience in Kailali and Achham districts of Nepal, as well as in selected regions of Sri Lanka.

Objectives

To enhance disaster resilience and preparedness in vulnerable communities of Nepal and Sri Lanka.
