Multi-Hazard Risk Assessment
Nepal's geographical diversity and topography make it prone to natural and anthropogenic hazards, including earthquakes, floods, and landslides. Disasters frequently damage school infrastructure, disrupting education and threatening safe learning environments. The 2015 Gorkha Earthquake and 2017 Terai floods exemplify this vulnerability, causing significant damage to schools and displacing families. Single hazard assessments are insufficient; thus, multi-hazard risk assessments (MHRAs) are essential for planning and preparedness. Under the "Gender-Responsive School and Community Safety Initiatives" project, Plan International Nepal, Hands Nepal, and NAXA aim to conduct MHRAs in Sindhuli District to enhance school safety, disaster risk management, and resilience while promoting gender and child rights.
